Recruitment & Care Continuity
We work with a broad range of carers. Most of them have many years of experience and some also have nursing qualifications. All carers communicate well in English and some also have other languages skills, so that our team is able to support the different communication needs of our clients.
The quality of the carers determines the quality of the service, therefore, the experience of a carer is essential to be considered for a role at Metrolab Care.
All our carers are carefully assessed for their:
- Professional Skills
- Inter Personal Skills
We make sure they possess the skills to provide the assistance and personal care/medication administration/ moving and handling that clients would need, in a sensible and competent way.
Key attributes that we look for in all our carers are: compassion, kindness, trustworthiness, reliability, empathy, enthusiasm, patience and respect.
All our carers undergo a stringent recruitment process. They are carefully checked, interviewed, assessed and trained including practical part- shadowing. They also go through a probation period when we assess their skills, performance, implementation of the knowledge and interaction with others ( clients, carers, office staff, other professionals).
Recruitment Process
FOR EACH CARER WE:
- Collect verbal and written references.
- In line with the National Care Standards Act 2010 we run an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services(CRB) records check through a DBS registered body for U.K residents. The DBS is an executive non-departmental public body of the Home Office. For other EU nationals we conduct a full police check in their country of residence.
- Conduct a formal face to face interview / assessments. First interview is on the phone, second online, third and final- in person
- Where appropriate we check the validity of their academic and vocational qualifications.
Clients are always involved in the decision-making process when a carer is selected. We present the carer’s profile ( for live in clients) with characteristics, experience, achievements and hobbies. Than we organize an interview, so both parties can assess each other.
The client’s preferences will always be paramount.
Once we match a carer to a client we ensure they are fully briefed and we supply a Care Plan with consent to provide care, the client’s contract, and service user guide with all necessary information and suggestions.
Specific Requirements for Live-in Carers
- All carers should have a two hours break a day, this will be arranged in a way both parties will be happy with. Some carers and clients like to arrange breaks every day, others prefer every other day, twice a week or once a week.
- The carer also needs a clear 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep at night. If the client needs any assistance during the night, then extra time off during the day will be necessary (this can be discussed during our assessment visit).
- Each carer lives in your home and will need their own room, with a comfortable bed, comfortable chair, heating and suitable lighting.
Continuity of Care
When we agree which team of carers will support you, we will set up a rotation system of visits/ shifts/ live in periods with regular intervals.
We will make sure that the same carers you chosen will attend you and you will have a selection of people that can support you, so if any of them would need a day off, holidays or be off sick, your support will be provided without unnecessary disruption.
All your carers will make the Care plan notes , which will be prepared at each visit and each shift, this documentation will stay with you, so carers, family members, authorised by you people and other professionals will be able to share important information about your care.
Handovers, supervisions, observations done by supervisors and check up calls from the office are some of the ways we want to make sure that the care provision is up to the highest standards.
